The process of extracting natural stone has had significant developments over the years. These developments have increasingly allowed us to have quarries with more productivity, less waste produced, more safety for everyone, and more environmentally friendly.
However, with the advance of new technologies, there are still processes that can be improved.
This Agenda aims to introduce more efficient and sustainable technologies and methodologies associated with Industry 4.0 to contribute to the creation of a circular economy that promotes collaborative processes between all players in the value chain and valorizes raw materials and final products.
WP 1 aims to answer the following challenges:
- The products (blocks) must have the necessary parameters for their commercialization (namely, homogeneity, adequate measures, no visible imperfections, etc.);
- Moving toward zero waste;
- The environmental impact should be as small as possible;
- Improve the logistics associated with the Natural Stone processes.
Development of new products, processes and systems to increase productive efficiency and environmental sustainability associated with the exploration of ornamental rocks.
7 new technologies and systems that will allow stone processes to contribute to CO2 reduction, with less energy and improved productivity (+10%)
The new technologies to be developed will be a step on the road to zero waste.
Using the new tools of digitalization and Industry 4.0, this WP will result in the economic, social and environmental sustainability of quarries and complementary stone-cutting processes.7
